Tissue Culture Rules!
We've come up with some rules that we would like all lab members to follow in the general tissue culture space.- Incubators Incubators are to be cleaned every three months. Rotation is to be assigned as a function of users using that incubator. However, it is the responsibility of all users of the incubator to check if the water is still there. If it ain’t go ahead and replace it with the distilled water found in the lab
- In hood liquid waste At the end of your session add bleach to the trap. At the end of the day pour out the contents of the bottle, rinse it with H20, spray down with ethanol, wipe the outside and put back into the hood.
- Outside solid waste Do not leave anything inside the hood after you’re done. When working in the hood use milk-shake containers to dispose of Pasteur pipettes and tips. For large plastic pipettes, make sure that when you dispose of them they are put into two milk-shake cartons before disposed of into the garbage bag.
- Pipettes Use glass pipettes provided by MaRS or plastic pipettes found in the lab.
- Reagents Storage: get new 4C fridge and –20 freezer space, black-out windows on fridge. Malgosia will take care of this.
- Storage consumables/restocking Everyone will use their own dishes. Malgosia will keep room stocked.
- Hood etiquette Close it down at the end of the day, including turning off the vacuum. Don’t leave anything inside the hood – no pipettes. UV is not to be on for longer than 15 min. Once a year all users will clean the hood inside out. Malgosia will keep track of this.
- Scheduling Whoever signs up gets priority for using the hood. If you sign up and you do not use it you’re an @#$%! Sign up is not mandatory, however.
- Problem resolution/communication Lab meeting is the best place to bring up issues or suggest changes.
